“Bring it Back Home”: Reading for the Collective

Spread:
Excess: The Stars
Deficiency: The Body/ The Skills
Key to Balance: The Wheel
This week stresses the importance of balancing the abstract with the practical; between science & nature, knowing there’s a time to apply a bit of both when the situation calls for it. The Stars warn against setting our sights too high for if we rely too heavily on science & innovation, we may lose a fundamental part of what makes humanity so special.
Since Stars represents modes of communication, we may be placing too much emphasis on media- transmitting intangible theories pertaining to science instead of looking to our body’s wisdom & its innate healing abilities. The Body/ The Skills tells us there seems to be more to learn as to the workings of the body & their interconnected relationship with mind & spirit. Somehow, we are missing the mark or falling short in applying the precise skills we need to handle problems with our bodies effectively . To our credit, humans are clever enough to solve their own difficulties by applying the proper technique to the appropriate problem. However, we may be guilty of looking at a far-out or distant perspective when what’s needed is to look closer to home. Since the wheel represents Health, it causes us to question that whatever we have been distancing ourselves from is causing a deficiency presenting in our bodies. The felled arrows seem to be telling us we are missing the point about fundamental human needs. Our body is an interconnected system designed to thrive on touch, to be stroked & loved giving us the ability to return that warmth & generosity to other bodies like ours. Unlike the Stars that are so cold & far away where there’s little comfort or heat to be enjoyed.
Illustrated by the spokes on the Wheel, we are all connected & bound by our Humanness, turning together for a common purpose, fate or a problem to solve. The Body reminds us of our corporal reality and how we can get trapped on that Wheel losing perspective & mindfulness of why we are in a physical body at this time. While we are spokes we are not exactly cogs either.
Each of us have our own cycles and rhythms that require consideration. (Menstrual, heartbeat & breathing cycles, seasonal mood changes). What’s good for one may not apply to another-timing is everything. It also reminds us that cycles, like history, can repeat themselves, elected leaders cycle in & out, people are born & then die, seasons come & go. And so, this brings us back to the Stars… for the Wheel asks us to trust, not only ourselves, but the tide of events or one may say The Universe (for it is the only one that knows where we are going)…and be at peace with it.
